I know the purpose of this page is to talk about myself in the 3rd person as if someone else wrote it. Let’s be honest, I am still learning who I am so how can someone else explain me? I feel as I take this journey with you, I will be able to reveal more than the basics. Perhaps my childhood or my military life.
For now let’s just stick with the safe but still uncomfortable answers. I was born in the Tri-State area of OH, WV, KY and spent my 1st 18 years moving around those areas as my mom was quite fond of new husbands. By the time I was 8, she was on husband #4 and I had a half-sister and 3 half-brothers (although I never considered them such. A traumatic childhood can bring siblings very close together).
I tried college, well a couple of them and could just never feel grounded. In the spring of 1991, I came home from Marshall University (to another house with husband #6) to find my Grandmother and mother in the kitchen. They were ready to confront me about a family secret I had kept for 10 years (but they just discovered). I am sure I will share that story and history at a later time as I realize now it impacted my adult life in unexpected ways. It was that moment that the “flight or fight” instinct that had been dormant in my soul finally decided to soar. The next week I signed up for the Marines.
The Marines gave me immediate freedom and the confidence to break away from the cycle of poverty, domestic violence and family secrets that I grew up in.
After boot camp, I was stationed in Millington, TN going through Parachute Riggers school. While on duty one night at the barracks….he walked in and my whole life changed!!!
